The Aerox E is Yamaha's first foray into the premium electric scooter segment. Powering their contender is a swingarm-mounted, permanent magnet sychronous motor (PMSM), capable of 9.4 kW of peak power, and 48 Nm of torque.

The headline performance figures state a usable top speed of 95.5kmph, which puts it a notch below the performance offered by some of the Aerox E's direct competitors.

Three distinct riding modes are available to the rider: Eco, Standard and Power. An additional 'Boost' mode is also available, through a separate, dedicated switch on the left-hand side of the handlebar.

The Boost mode temporarily provides maximum torque and power from the motor, for a period of 10 seconds, which is helpful during quick overtakes in traffic. However, it also has a 30-second cooldown before it can be used again.

Performance in the Power mode is spirited, with adequate performance on offer to execute quick maneuvers and keep up with fast-moving traffic. However, the performance doesn't feel exceptional, especially considering the Aerox E brands itself as a 'sporty' option.

Moreover, the Eco and Standard modes feel flat-footed, with these modes being viable only in slower city traffic. The 10-second 'Boost' mode is where performance livens up significantly, although the usage limit and mandatory 30-second cooldown does dampen the fun-factor of the electric powertrain.
